Clutch Tinz

I mentioned i made some clutches....here they are!!

This one i literally cut a dress i had made ages ago that i never wore and definitely does not fit anymore...lining and all. I put interfacing on only one side...now i'm wishing i doubled up cos while i think it looks pretty [if i do say so myself] there is pretty much NO hold to the purse.

This one i made as a gift. I was invited to some secret santa/year end event and was supposed to bring a gift even though i didn't know anyone else but the person who invited me. I wanted to give away something i made...guess also as a way to 'market' myself [hehe]. Anyways, the person that invited me ended up canceling so i didn't get to go :(. Ah well, i'm sure i can find someone to give it to.
**Oh i placed this plastic/flexible thing [i forget what its called] to give it the stay/hold but i don't particularly like the way it turned out cos it just won't lay still. So next time, i think i'll use the thing for just the actual purse bit and leave the flap so it lays down better

This one i also made as a gift for the person that requested the Tote bag from the previous post. She had given me some left over material the last time i saw her and said to do whatever with em so i figured it'd be nice to make her something extra. This took a while to make as i really took my time to make sure i got things right. I'm quite pleased with the finished product. I used a black satin fabric for the lining and flower

Bag Lady

Mehn time just kinda flies huh?? I ain't been here in a hot minute...i kept meaning to but umm yea it just didn't happen. Even now sef i don't have my pictures loaded but i said by fire by force oh, i musto post which i realize totally defeats the purpose. I mean what's a 'product' post without any product, ey? Una go help me manage am like that jare. I'll post the pics soon enough :D

Messenger Bag
My sis requested a make her a messenger bag after seeing the one i made for myself. I didn't add any 'stay' or interfacing so it's all cotton fabric.

[Large?] Tote
My friend said to make her a tote and gave me some material to do so. Mehnnnnnnnnnnnn!!! This bag took a while to make...my seam ripper was very busy. I kept making all kinds of silly mistakes and had to take seams apart. It was meant to be much bigger but i miscalcuated the measurements and it ended up being too long but not as wide so i had to make it shorter AFTER i had finished sewing the whole thing. Then i realized the top black back is a little narrower than i would have liked so it might get a lil iffy for the user of the bag *sigh*.
Ah well, better luck next time. I think its usable and doesn't look bad. Maybe i'll go with a less complicated style next time. Lol!!

Oh, i made some Ankara Clutches too...next post ;)

**Pictures loaded 12/20. I try na, ba? lol

Double sided Head Band!

So i said i was going to make reqular sized head bands...decided to make a double sided one. The bowtie is still detachable so you can wear the band with or without the bowtie which is also double sided. My sis gave me an idea of how to attach the bow so i'll try that the next time i make one.

Baby Booties??

Haha!! So i decided to try my hands on some baby booties. I tried a couple different patterns but i just couldn't seem to get the dimensions right...they ended up looking weird. I actually had this lofty idea of gifting this to a friend who just had a baby girl...silly me. LOL!! Ah well, you know what they say...practice makes perfect, ey?

Head Band

A rather BIG one, ey? There is a reason for that...this is really for my naturalista sistas. You know how one might wrap their twist-out or combed out 'fro with a scarf or scrap material? Well, i've done that a few times and each time i always thought 'dang, i wish i had a big enough head band so i don't have to mess with tying a scarf or trying to tuck the ends of the material somewhere they don't show'.

Well, i decided to make one :). Oh and the difference with this 'naturalista head band' is that it's worn backwards...most people wear head bands with the band in front and the elastic band in the back. This is made to be worn with the band at the back...you know, to hold up the 'fro. I even made a detachable 'bow'...you can attach the bow or not.

I'll make some regular sized head bands too...later.

BowTie Earrings N Tins!!

...we have bowtie pasta, bowtie hair pieces, bowtie neck pieces...heck why not bowtiw earrings, ey?? Lol. This sounded really good in my head but it didn't quite turn out as i imagined :(. It sits on my ear lobe rather weirdly. Maybe i needed to make them smaller? Ah well.

Description from left to right:
I made some 'Fabric Hoops'...cute huh? Well, iLike.
I love love love the round ones...i cut a strip of fabric, sewed it together, gathered it, wrapped it into that shape, and put a 'button' on top...you like?
The bowtie earrings.
Ankara 'flower'...can be worn as a brooch or a hair accessory
Hair clip- I mixed the same brown Ankara material as the flower/hoops with some other yellow fabric I had.

Oh, I finally rocked my messenger bag!! :)

Unfinished Earrings...

So I cut out some pattern from some fabric cos I wanted to make some earrings. I’ve been wanting to make them for a while now but I never seem to have all the material I need…I’m missing ‘eyelets’ so I can’t connect the fabric earrings to the ear loops. Anyways, these are pictures of the semi-finished products.

I cut these square patterns from a fabric I have (same as the first neck piece)…glued them together with fabric glue and kinda pegged them [like pictures in a dark room] up to dry
*the lighting is kinda off...that red looks kinda orange

I have some earrings in the shape of the map of Africa so I cut out fabric in the shape of Africa, glue them together, and…

The 'half moon' ones are actually full circles but i thot i'd try these out.

I'll post the finished products whenever i get my hands on some eyelets.

DIY Ankara Messengar Bag!!

I’ve wanted to make one of these FOR A WHILE!! I even told myself I’d make one before summer was over but alas…Then when I decided I was ready for it, the old denim skirt I planned to use as a base was nowhere to be found so…

Anyways, finally made one, Yayyy!! It’s pretty cool to be able to take ‘scraps’ and turn them into something functional and useful…whoop whoop!!

It's not perfect, even though you can't really see it some bits are uneven but hey, practice makes perfect, ey?

These are the four main parts all pinned up before i hit the sewing machine...

Sewn and turned right side up. [L-R] Strap, Ankara lining with Ankara pocket, Flap of the bag with Ankara strips on the top side, main bag with brown Ankara strips on the sides
Finished Ankara Messenger Bag....taaadaaa!!

I was going to take a picture of the bag around me so you'd see how it sits on my body but i didn't get around to it before putting this up...sorry :p

Extra Extra...read all about it

Ankara Button Earrings made just for you…LOL!! So I went shopping again but didn’t spend quite as much. These were very easy to make and they are soooooo cute!! I love the fact that they come in different sizes.

*Yea, ignore my improvised 'labels'...i kinda like them sha. I need to figure out a way to make better ones...i'm sure they sell them some place.

I paired the yellow button earrings with the peter pan collar from the last post. Isn't it sooo cute?? What do you all think? Would you rock it?

Peter Pan!!

These have been all the rave so I decided to give it a try. Now these took a while to make cos everything was by hand. Yes, all the others have been by hand but they were relatively quick. With this tho, I thot I might be able to stitch the edges with my sewing machine but alas I couldn’t. I didn’t want a regular top stitch; I wanted something like a blanket stitch. So I hand-sewed the blanket stitch all around then sewed a ‘button’ in the center. Oh there is some ‘felt’ on the back which is why I wanted a ‘decorative’ stitch.

This is getting kinda serious oh!

So after scouring YouTube for hours i got so pumped that i decided to go shopping for supplies and Duuuude!!! I was in the store for hours and spent over a hundred. I got earring hooks, Felt squares, Tools for jewelry making, Fabric [cos i wanted to sew a peplum top...more on that later], Fabric glue, Fabric Stiffener and some other stuff sha.

Anyways, while making some of the hair pieces [the yo-yos], i thought 'ohhh i can totaly use some of these 'styles/patterns' to make a necklace...so off i went again to YouTube and what do you know...

I think the 'rope' or whatever it's called is too skinny cos i think it sits weird on my neck...maybe i'll try it on just a ribbon next time.

What do you think?

PS: Ignore my improvised 'label' :p

More Hair stuff

I love YouTube...you can find any and everything. With a little patience and practice you can be whatever you want...lol, okay just kidding. Like i said #NothingNewUnderTheSun so i doubt you'll see anything here that is revolutionary...the difference will be that they will be made from Ankara or African Print or just Print even...yea that's not new either but whatevs :)

Found some pattern so i just cut up some ankara and plain black material and layered then alternatively.
Oh and the others are the very revolutionary.......wait for it!!!! BowTies!!! Lol

Genesis

I started out making hair bows and accessories for my niece. They were relatively easy to make and you don't even need a sewing machine for most of them. My bro and his fam came to visit over the last holiday and these were are back to school pressies.

Hello World!

So I've always said about myself that "I don't have a creative bone in my body", ironically, I've always thought it'd be pretty neat to 'create' things with Ankara/African prints...things like: earrings/throw pillows/picture frames/hair accessories/etc. I realize that this isn't even remotely a new idea because there are all kinds of creative people doing great things with print seeing as there is #NothingNewUnderTheSun.

Anyways, I've had some time on my hands lately so i've been playing around with some Ankara/Prints. This blog will feature pictures of my sample pieces, if you will [as you will see, most will be from the same type fabric]. The question i'm still asking myself is...To sell or Not to sell?? Is the market too saturated?? I guess we shall see. Come with me, will ya? and feel free to let me know your thoughts :).
